Reading and Borrowing Regulations

Library Card Application

  1. Please bring 2 one inch photos (close-up, taken within 3 months), identification card and student card (or staff ID card), fill out and hand in the Library Card Application Form for following procedures.
  2. The applicant has to be there in person.
  3. The Library Card gives you access to all libraries within campus, do not apply for more than once.
  4. Please refer to each campus libraries’ guidelines for library card notices.

Borrowing Regulations

  1. Reference materials and current issues of periodicals can not be checked out.
  2. Patrons with AS library cards can borrow and reserve library materials, but ISS holds the right to accept or decline.
  3. Patrons can borrow other materials when overdue materials have been returned.
  4. If other patrons did not reserve the material that you are borrowing, you can renew it once through WEBPAC, e-mail, or phone. ISS Library can help with renewing ISS staffs borrowed materials for unlimited amount of time.
  5. ISS staff members going overseas for over 6 months should return all the borrowed materials before departure.

The amount of Borrowing Materials / the Loan Period / Penalties

  1. ISS staff members can request a maximum of 30 items, with 60 days loan period according to long loan period regulations.
  2. ISS members can request a maximum of 10 items, with the loan period of 30 days.
  3. AS members can request a maximum of 5 items, with a loan period of 30 days.
  4. Penalties will be calculated based on the number of days overdue. An overdue fee of NT$5 will be charged per day after an item becomes overdue.

Long Roan Period Regulations

  1. ISS researchers can request for long loan periods.
  2. Single version materials or materials with only one copy do not apply to long loan periods.
  3. Researchers can request for a maximum of 40 materials per year. The library will help with renewal.
  4. Researchers with the need of borrowing over 40 items for long loan periods can file for approval requests.
  5. The amount of items that can be borrowed for long loan periods are determined according to each situation and will comply with institutional meeting’s resolutions.

Overdue Materials

  1. If ISS members have research needs, even if the loan period is not expired, ISS Library holds the right for asking the immediate return of borrowed items.
  2. If other patrons reserved the item you borrowed, the loan period will shorten. It guarantees at least 7 reading days, with a 7 day buffer.
  3. Penalties will be calculated based on the number of days overdue. An overdue fee of NT$5 will be charged per day after an item becomes overdue.

Reservation

  1. Anyone holding a Library Card of AS can reserve books from ISS Library by WEBPAC or on site, but ISS holds the right to accept or decline.
  2. When the reserved books arrive, you will be notified by e-mail. Please come to ISS Library to check out within 7 days; otherwise, the reservation will be cancelled.
  3. Books on the shelf can’t be reserved, please come to ISS Library to check out on-site.

Compensation

  1. A patron will be charged the cost of replacement items and other handling charges based on AS’s regulations when the items are lost or cannot be repaired.
  2. Patrons should not draw lines, dots, comments, etc. in borrowed materials; otherwise, compensation shall be made according to AS’s regulations.
  3. If borrowing materials are damaged and can’t be read, compensation shall be made as lost.
